Dive Bar - 2017+ Ford Superduty

Overview

Install will consist of removing tow hooks bezels, temporarily installing the Dive Bar, marking tow hook bezels for trimming and the final installation of the Dive Bar.

Tool list

18mm socket
Ratchet or socket driver
Non marring plastic pry tool
Cutting tool for tow hook bezels- jig saw, razor blade etc

Step 1: Remove tow hook bezels

Remove both tow hook bezels. Older model trucks will have tabs that you press and easily remove bezels, newer trucks you will need to pull/pry toward the front to pop the bezel out. Take care not to damage clips while removing.

Step 2: Remove outer tow hook bolts

Using an 18mm socket, remove outer tow hook bolts on both tow hooks. The bolts thread into a backing plate shown in the photo below. You will need to catch this plate when it falls after removing the bolts.

Step 3: Temporary install and bezel trimming

A friend may be helpful for this part. Set the Dive Bar in place, re-install factory hardware and tighten. The Dive Bar mounting brackets have slots for variances in tow hook bolt locations. Because of this you will want to center your bar on the vehicle. Pick a point on the bumper such as a body line, fog light bezel etc. and make sure you are measuring the same distance to the Dive bar bracket on each side.

Now for the bezel trimming. There are a couple ways to trim the bezel: the easiest way we have found is to hold the bezel up in place using the tow hook as a way to correctly locate it. (shown in photo below). This will allow you to see where the Dive Bar mounting bracket will need to pass through the bezel. Next you will use the Dive Bar mounting bracket as your guide and mark out the area that needs to be cut. You can tape up this area beforehand to make things a little tidier.

Pro tip for cutting: Mark out the area using a straight edge and a marker, then drill holes in the corners of the box you marked out. Finally, connect the dots using a jig saw (if available) or a razor knife. When using a razor knife you can use the straight edge as a guide and make multiple light cuts rather than cutting all the way through at once.

Step 4: Final Install

Once your bezels are cut you will now remove the Dive Bar and slide the bezels onto the mounting brackets as shown below. With both bezels on the bar you can now install the mounting hardware and center the bar for the final time. Once the bar is in place you can snap the bezels back in place and the install is complete.
